Cal Poly Pomona’s Liberty Ortiz picked up where she left off to win the first FloCollege/CCAA Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award for the 2025 season.
Ortiz led the Broncos' defensive unit to a pair of wins over PacWest opponents as the defending national champs outscored teams 7-2 to start with a 2-0 record.
Ortiz, a senior defender from Chino Hills, Calif., played a key role in the backfield as CPP allowed just two goals on four shots on goal. Ortiz played 161 minutes including a full 90 in the 3-1 win over Azusa Pacific on Thursday. The Broncos, the No. 1 ranked team heading into the season, also beat Fresno Pacific 4-1 on Saturday.
Ortiz was named the CCAA Defensive Player of the Week twice in 2024, including the final award last November. This is her fourth career weekly honor. Click here for history of CCAA Player of the Week awards.
The No. 1 ranked Broncos, winners of 12 consecutive matches dating back to last season, will host Westmont on Thursday before an early-season marquee match at Point Loma on Saturday. Thursday’s home match, at 4:30 p.m., will be streaming live on FloCollege.
