CCAA Announces 2012 Women’s Volleyball All-Conference Team

WALNUT CREEK – Cal State San Bernardino captured their seventh straight California Collegiate Athletic Association title and recorded a conference-high of five players named to this year's All-CCAA team, it was announced on Wednesday.

Three teams -- Sonoma State, UC San Diego, and San Francisco State named four players to the All-CCAA team.

Senior setter Iris Tolenada, who helped San Francisco State to a 16-6 record and the Gators to their third NCAA Tournament berth in program history, has been named the 2012 Most Valuable Player.  The senior from Antioch led the conference this season with 11.33 assists per-set.

Teammate to Tolenada, Meagan Wright was named Freshman of the Year after recording 286 kills for a .300 average on the season.  The middle-blocker also finished second among the CCAA leaders with 30 service aces.

Cal State East Bay's Suzy Ni Xu received the Newcomer of the Year award, while Cal State Dominguez Hills Jennifer Adeva has been selected as this season's CCAA Coach of the Year.  Adeva, only in her second year with the Toros, guided her team to an 11-win improvement from the 2011 season.

Cal State San Bernardino's Camille Smith (senior setter), Mercedes Winchester (senior, middle blocker), and Alexandra Torline (freshman outside hitter) all made the first team.  Tolenada and Wright, along with Cal State East Bay's Suzy Ni Xu were the only individuals from their programs to make the first team.  Sonoma State was represented on the first team by sophomore outside hitter Kelsey Hull and senior Ally Sather, marking both individuals second consecutive All-CCAA honors.

Chico State placed two players – junior outside hitter, Alex Shurtz and senior Sable Villaescusa on the first team, while UC San Diego's Danielle Dahle, Cal State L.A.'s Marquis Mora, and Julia Ashen of Cal State Monterey Bay rounded out the first team honorees.
