WALNUT CREEK -- Eight California Collegiate Athletic Association men's golf teams wrapped up the two-day Coyote Classic, hosted by Cal State San Bernardino, on Tuesday afternoon.
Joining the Coyotes on the course was Cal State Stanislaus, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Chico State, Cal State East Bay, Sonoma State, UC San Diego, and Cal State Monterey Bay.
The CSUS Warriors captured the win to open the CCAA tournament play. The win marks the Warriors first in the spring and their second for the 2012-13 year.
All five of the Warrior golfers finished among the top 23 of the leaderboard. The team finished the tournament with a low of 864 with Cal State Monterey Bay following right behind with a 32-over 872.
Finishing third was tournament host, CSUSB, 13 strokes behind the Warriors and just eight strokes behind the Otters. Chico State finished sixth (886) and UC San Diego tied for eighth with Colorado St.-Pueblo with a score of 898. Sonoma State (904) and Cal State East Bay (907) wrapped up the standings with a 10th place and 11th place finish, respectively.
Cal State Dominguez Hills wrapped up the tournament in 15th after shooting a 1007 as a team.
Individually leading the conference was Cal State Stanislaus' Paul Smith, who tied for second after shooting a 4-under 212. Cal State East Bay's Chris Herzog and CSUMB's Jared Stone rouned out the top-five individuals after shooting a 214.
