No. 3 UC San Diego 64, No. 4 Cal Poly Pomona 56
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – UC San Diego received double-figure scoring from four players, including a game-high 17 points from tournament Most Valuable Player Henry Patterson, and defeated No. 4 seed Cal Poly Pomona 64-56 to capture the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament title Saturday night at Coussoulis Arena in San Bernardino.

With the win, the Tritons (18-11) earned the CCAA’s automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. The entire field seedings will be announced on Sunday.

Joining Patterson in double figures for UC San Diego were Jordan Lawley, who scored 14 points and Darrly Lawlor and Clint Allard with 11 points each. Lawlor finished with a double-double as he also totaled 10 rebounds.

Senior Angelo Tsagarakis scored 16 points to lead Cal Poly Pomona, which concluded its season 13-15. Junior forward Larry Gordon posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Rich Collins finished with 11 points.

After building a 14-point second-half lead with 14:06 remaining, UC San Diego had to withstand a late Cal Poly Pomona run as the Broncos cut the deficit to three points at 50-47 with 6:31 remaining.

However, that was as close as Cal Poly Pomona would get as UC San Diego built its lead back to eight points at 62-54 with :31 remaining.
