No. 1 Chico State 78, No. 4 Cal Poly Pomona 74
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Sophomore guard Jade Smith-Williams scored a season-high 17 points and top-seed Chico State survived a late comeback attempt by No. 4 seed Cal Poly Pomona to post a 78-74 victory Friday afternoon and advance to the championship game of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament.

The Wildcats (26-5) will meet No. 2 UC San Diego in the title game Saturday at 5 p.m. The Tritons were a 57-55 winner of over No. 3 Sonoma State earlier in the day.

Chico State received a balanced scoring effort as five players finished in double figures. Joining Smith-Williams in double figures were Natasha Smith (13), Amanda Monteith (12), Renee Goldoff (11) and Christine Vest with 10 points.

Senior forward Vanessa Dominguez led Cal Poly Pomona with a game-high 27 points, including 23 in the second half as she helped the Broncos cut a 14-point deficit to a point after Dominguez made two free throws to make it a 70-69 game with :50 remaining.

Junior guard Andrea Ohlssen was the only other Cal Poly Pomona player to finish in double figures as she scored 11 points.

Chico State finished the game shooting 50 percent (20 of 40) from the field, was 36 of 47 from the free thrown line and out-rebounded the Broncos, 38-30. Cal Pomona connected on 25 of 61 (41.0 percent) from the field and was 16 of 24 from the foul line.

The two teams combined 53 fouls and went to the free throw line 71 times.
