Chico State's SAAC Raising Bread for a Local Bread Raiser
By Mitch Cox - Assistant Director of Athletics, Chico State
The Chico State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)
is teaming up with the Tin Roof Café and Bakery to help
raise money for a local bread baker who was seriously injured when
he was hit while riding his bike to work. On November 7, local
bread baker James Brittan, better known by his nickname
“Kalaka” was riding his bike to work at the Tin Roof
Café and Bakery. Just a few blocks from the bakery, Kalaka
was hit by a truck, breaking both of his arms and causing other
injuries.
While the driver’s insurance is covering the medical
expenses, Kalaka is unable to work for at least another month. With
the holidays approaching, and other bills needing to be paid,
co-workers of Kalaka started trying to raise money to help him and
his family through this difficult time.
Both Friday and Saturday, Dec. 14-15, at the Chico State
basketball games, there will be a raffle to auction off a wonderful
holiday gift basket created by the Tin Roof Cafe. Anyone purchasing
$10 or more in raffle tickets will get a Chico State Wildcat
tee-shirt and a 25% off coupon good at the Tin Roof Cafe.
Additionally, SAAC will match the total amount raised through
raffle ticket sales, doubling the amount that will benefit Kalaka
and his family!
