SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted a night of Gatorade Pong on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at the Black Box Cabernet. All proceeds were donated to Make-A-Wish Foundation, the official charity of NCAA Division II SAAC.
SAAC raised a record $1000 during the two-hour event that
was part of Alcohol Awareness Week at CSUMB. The two-person teams
consisted of CSUMB students, staff and faculty.
"Gatorade Pong was an excellent way to be involved with National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness week as well help out such a great foundation,” said SAAC co-President Dylan Jackson. "Fellow co-President Jessica Fontenette and I would like to thank everyone who attended and our SAAC members how helped plan and refereed the event.”
SAAC first hosted “G-Pong” in 2009 as an alternative entertainment for students and has tried to hold the event each fall and spring since then.
“I would like to give a shout out to SAAC for a great Gatorade Pong event,” said Head Coach Rob Bishop who teamed up with freshman Alex Fertig. “Looking forward to next year already so we can improve upon our semi final finish.”
The Landsharks, the team Kevin Sparks and Chris Owen, won the event and received two 20 dollar gift certificates to Chipotle. Team #Winning's Natalie Argueta and Anna Guraydin, members of the women's soccer team, were runner-ups.
Sodexo donated chips, pretzels, cookies and veggies and CSUMB Sports Medicine Department supplied the Gatorade for the event.
SAAC plans on hosting another Gatorade Tournament in the spring of 2013. Make sure to check back at OtterAthletics.com for more details.
