CCAA SAAC to Sponsor Canned Food Drives During Month of February
WALNUT CREEK – The California Collegiate Athletic
Association (CCAA) Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will
sponsor canned food drives at all 12 member institutions during the
month of February.
Each institution’s SAAC will be holding a canned food
drive to support a food bank in its campus city. The SAAC is
encouraging members of each college community to bring canned goods
to a designated drop-off point on campus.
“The purpose of the CCAA Canned Food Drive is to both
collect canned goods and raise awareness to the prevalence of
hunger in our communities," CCAA Commissioner Robert J. Hiegert
said. “With that in mind, each SAAC will become informed
about hunger in its community, and conducting awareness-raising
events is in integral component.”
During the academic year, each campus SAAC works to support
community and campus programs and projects. The Make-A-Wish
Foundation, American Cancer Society and Susan G. Komen Foundation
are among the national charitable organizations SAAC has partnered
with.
“The CCAA and its membership continue to be impressed
by the vision, leadership, and community service shown by the SAAC
on each campus,” Hiegert said. “ These student-athletes
work hard to support their communities and to be productive and
caring community members. It is a tremendous group of which we are
very proud.”
