Make-A-Wish Foundation
The CCAA SAAC's primary fundraising activity has revolved around
the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the
wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to
enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. It is the
largest wish-granting charity in the world, with 76 chapters in the
United States and its territories and 27 international affiliates
on 5 continents. With the help of generous donors and more than
25,000 volunteers, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has granted more than
110,000 wishes to children around the world since 1980.
The Division II National SAAC prides itself in being the
forerunner of this particular initiative and is the only division
thus far to sponsor a division-wide community service
campaign. The Make-A-Wish Foundation fundraising campaign has
been identified as a part of the Division II strategic plan and
seeks to meet the plan outcome measures as addressed in the goals
of student-athlete achievement and the enhancement of the Division
II national identity.
2006-07 was the fourth year of the Make-A-Wish Foundation
fundraising campaign for both Division II and the CCAA. The
CCAA SAAC raised $9,839.53, which ranks fifth out of all Division
II conferences nationwide. Cal State Stanislaus contributed
$2,560, the most of any CCAA institution for the third straight
year. UC San Diego raised $2,000, second in the CCAA.
For the third year in a row, the CCAA had 100% participation rate
from its institutions, one of only three conferences to accomplish
that goal this year. The NCAA raised $208,022 overall, more
than doubling its fundraising goal for the year.
In 2005-06 the CCAA SAAC raised $10,787.31, third among Division
II conferences. In 2004-05 they raised $5,100.57, which
ranked fourth.
The CCAA SAAC's goal was to raise approximately $2.00 for every
student-athlete at each member institution.
