Cal State East Bay's Deja Thompson Named CCAA Player of the Week
SAN RAMON, Calif. - Cal State East Bay junior
Deja Thompson has been selected as the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 4 through Sept. 10.
Thompson put together a tremendous week on the attack to lead the Pioneers to a 3-1 record at the D2 West Region Showcase tournament in Monmouth, Ore. She was East Bay's top scorer for the weekend, tallying 55 total kills.
Her accolade-deserving week included three huge performances: She hit .333 with 18 kills against Fresno Pacific, .300 with 11 kills versus Seattle Pacific, and .317 with 17 kills in a thrilling comeback win over Western Oregon. Defensively, Thompson also tallied 11 digs and 15 total blocks in the four matches. Following Saturday's action, she was named to the D2 West Showcase All-Tournament Team.
Up next, the Pioneers host Cal State Monterey Bay on Wednesday at 7 p.m. for the CCAA opener and the CCAA Match of the Week.
