Samantha Figueroa Scoops up CCAA Player of the Week Nov 7, 2017 SAN RAMON, Calif. - Cal Poly Pomona libero Samantha Figueroa scooped up a school digs record en route to collecting California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week for Oct. 30-Nov. 5. The senior libero from South Pasadena collected 50 digs in the Broncos’ 3-2 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday to set a new Cal Poly Pomona single-match record. The tally is third-best in NCAA Division II in a five-set match on the season, and rates in the top 20 all-time in DII history. Figueroa’s tally is just two shy of the CCAA benchmark of 52, set by Lorraine Chanvez of Cal State LA in 1987. After the record-setting performance, Figueroa compiled 35 digs in Saturday’s 3-1 win against Cal State LA to keep the playoff hopes alive for the Broncos heading into the final weekend of the season. Cal Poly Pomona has one match this week, taking on Humboldt State in Arcata on Saturday at 7 p.m. With the top four teams in each division advancing to postseason play, the Broncos sit at 8-8 in conference action, jostling for the fourth spot in the south with Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State LA who are both at 8-7 with two matches remaining.
