Karla Santos Claims Season's Final CCAA Player of the Week Award Nov 14, 2017 SAN RAMON, Calif. - Cal State LA freshman Karla Santos capped off her first season in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) with her second Player of the Week nod of the year, for the week of Nov. 6-12. Hailing from Manati, Puerto Rico, Santos swung for 35 kills in the week’s two matches, propelling the Golden Eagles to the fourth and final spot in the 2017 CCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship. In Friday’s four-set win over San Marcos, she compiled 220 kills on a .364 hitting percentage to go along with 17 digs. The following day, Santos notched another double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs in a sweep of UC San Diego. The weekend’s results landed Cal State LA in a three-way tie for third in the South division with UC San Diego and Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Tritons earned the third seed in the tournament bracket with the Golden Eagles picking up the fourth spot. The squad will now face the No. 1 seed in the North, Sonoma State, in the quarterfinal round at The Swamp in San Francisco. Thursday’s action begins at noon, with Cal State LA and Sonoma State slated for a 2:30 p.m. start.
