LA's Alma Serna Named Sport Imports/AVCA Division II Women's Volleyball Player of the Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. – A junior transer out of Long Beach State, Alma Serna has been selected the Division II Women's Volleyball Player of the Week by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), it was announced Tuesday afternoon.

September 24: vs. No. 13 Cal State San Bernardino (W, 3-1)

Serna was also named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week after helping her team to a 2-0 week, including a three-set sweep of Cal Poly Pomona on Friday night and a four-set upset of then-ranked No. 13 Cal State San Bernardino Saturday.

Saturday, against the Coyotes, led her team with 17 kills, six blocks, and .424 hitting percentage to lead the Golden Eagles to their first win over CSUSB since 2012. 

Serna becomes just the fifth CSULA player from the program to wih the Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week, with the most recent honor awarded to Iona Lofrano on September 24, 2013.
