Cal State East Bay's Deja Thompson Earns CCAA Volleyball Player of the Week Honors
SAN RAMON – Cal State East Bay outside hitter Deja Thompson was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 10-16, becoming the first Pioneer to earn the honor since former player Roxanne Neeley, who was named in November 2010.
Thompson was a force for the Pioneers, helping helping her team pull off their first weekend sweep of the season with wins over the North Division's top squads -- Chico State and Stanislaus State.
Friday in a three-set sweep over the Warriors, Thompson hit .526 (11-1-19), while also totaling three blocks. The following night Thompson smashed a team-leading 19 kills and four blocks, helping her team rally back from a 2-1 deficit and bring Chico State's six-game win streak to a close.
On the weekend, the Rialto product hit .355 with 30 kills and just eight errors in 62 total swings and totaled seven blocks.
