Cal State Stanislaus Selected to Host 2013 CCAA Soccer Championships

WALNUT CREEK – Cal State Stanislaus has been selected as the host institution for the 2013 California Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s and Women’s Soccer Championships.

The Championships will be held November 8-10 at Warrior Stadium on the campus of Cal State Stanislaus in Turlock.  The format calls for two men’s and women’s semifinal matches to be played on Friday, November 8 and both title games to be played on Sunday, November 10.

“The CCAA has traditionally been among the most competitive conference in soccer in the Country,” said CCAA Commissioner Mike Matthews.  “The 2013 season and Conference Championship will be no different.”

This marks the fifth time the Warriors have been selected to host the CCAA Championships since the tournament’s debut in 1998. The 2,100-seat stadium is a part of the Student Recreation Complex opened in 2009 and was home to the annual CCAA event in 2009, 2010, and 2011. The facility was also home to the 2011 NCAA Track & Field Championships and two CCAA Track & Field Championships (2011 & 2013).

“We are once again honored to host the CCAA Soccer Championships. It is another opportunity for us to showcase our outstanding facility, our campus, and entire local community,” said Cal State Stanislaus Director of Athletics Michael Matoso.

“Likewise, we are excited to showcase our excellent student-athletes within the CCAA as fans will be able to watch some of the best soccer in the country,” added Matoso.

The Warriors’ men’s squad captured their first-ever CCAA title last season, while UC San Diego won its eighth women’s title in 2012.

The complete bracket for the Championships will be announced on Sunday, November 3, immediately following the conclusion of regular-season play.
