BELMONT - Courtney McCallion netted her first career goal as the Notre Dame de Namur women’s soccer team notched a 1-0 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay.  The Argos held a 20-6 shot advantage and controlled the game from the start.

The first half featured a few scoring chances for the Argos as Andrea Huerta, Alexis Tershay and Courtney McCallion all nearly put NDNU on top.  Huerta had a header sail just wide while also lifting a shot just above the frame.  McCallion had a shot just graze the post while Tershay missed putting NDNU ahead in the final seconds when her chip over the goalie went a few feet wide of the net.

The second half was all NDNU as the Argos outshot the Otters 12-3 and controlled the ball for nearly the entire half.  They were finally able to break through in the 71st minute when McCallion one-timed a failed clear attempt from 25 yards past CSUMB keeper Graciela Holguin.  The goal was the first of McCallion’s career and was enough to give the Argos their first win of the season.

Kelsey Baxter earned the shutout with 90 scoreless minutes and made one save.  Holguin was solid in net for the Otters making six saves.
