WALNUT CREEK — Cal State L.A. senior Dora Kiss was named Most Valuable Player and Cal State Stanislaus placed a conference-high four players on the All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Tennis First Team following a vote of conference coaches, it was announced on Wednesday.
Cal Poly Pomona’s Christie Lau was selected Freshman of the Year, while Cal State Stanislaus sophomore Arina Polovnikova was chosen Newcomer of the Year and her coach, Verek Visaraga, was tabbed Coach of the Year after leading the Warriors to an 8-2 conference mark and second place finish in the CCAA.
Joining Kiss on the first team were Cal State Stanislaus’ Vanesa Reibstein at No. 2 singles, Katie Eng at No. 3, Polovnikova at No. 4 and Erin McGurty, who shared the No. 6 singles spot with Sonoma State senior Jessica Harris. Kaitlin Wooldridge of Cal Poly Pomona rounded out the first team as she was named at the No. 5 position.
The first team doubles team was comprised of Cal State Stanislaus’ Verena Preikschas and Eng at No. 1, Cal Poly Pomona’s Wooldridge and Christie Lau at No. 2, and Stephanie Hoffmire and Jeanette Peck at No. 3.
The second team consisted of Lau and Cal Poly Pomona teammate Jackie Trendt, Cindy Dao and Taskeen Bains of UC San Diego, and Cal State Stanislaus sophomore Verena Preikschaus.
