ATLANTA - UC San Diego sophomore point guard Chelsea Carlisle was named to the 2010 NCAA Division II State Farm Coaches' All-American Team, it was announced Monday by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
Carlisle was the only underclassmen selected to the 10-member first team, which was determined by a vote of the WBCA/State Farm selection committee. The committee is comprised of one representative from each of the eight geographical regions in Division II and a chairperson.
The Tritons' leading scorer in 2009-10, Carlisle was also the only representative from the West Region on the first team. Cal Poly Pomona's Reyana Colson, Seattle Pacific's Daesha Henderson, and Amanda Dunbar and Jessica Summers of Western Washington earned honorable mention accolades.
"This is a tremendous honor for Chelsea," Triton head coach Charity Elliott said. "She played an integral part in our success this season, but I also think the award speaks to what we were able to accomplish as a team. I hope this will motivate her to work even harder and get better going forward."
Carlisle led UCSD to an overall record of 25-5 and a second consecutive California Collegiate Athletic Association title in 2009-10. She averaged team-highs of 17.4 points, 3.6 assists, and 2.2 assists while running the offense for a Triton squad that was ranked No. 1 in the West for most of the season. Carlisle was named the CCAA Most Valuable Player after finishing second in the league in scoring and steals and fourth in assists, and then went on to earn West Region Player of the Year honors from Daktronics.
The Agoura Hills, Calif. native becomes the first UCSD player to be named a first team All-American since Leora Juster in 2006-07. Michelle Osier was a State Farm Coaches' Honorable Mention selection last season.
