CHICO, Calif. - UC San Diego continued its dominance over the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) as it captured its fifth consecutive women's title at University Stadium in Chico on Saturday.
The Tritons, led by CCAA Coach of the Year, Darcy Ahner, collected 247.50 points to finish ahead of second-place Cal State L.A. (164). Chico State (142.50) was third and followed by Humboldt State (62), Cal Poly Pomona (61.50), San Francisco State (57.50), Cal State Stanislaus (49 and Cal State Dominguez Hills (63).
UC San Diego's Christine Merrill, who won the 400 (56.22), 400 hurdles (61.13), and was part of the Tritons' 4 x 100 meter relay team, was named the Athlete of the Meet.
Cal State L.A.'s Vivien Wadeck and Tuekeha Huntley were named the CCAA Newcomer of the Year and Freshman of the Year, respectively.
Wadeck, the CCAA individual champion in cross country, added two more conference titles on Saturday. She won the 1,500 meters in 4:41.25 and the 5,000 in 17:34.85.
