CCAA Announces 2008 Women's Basketball All-Conference Teams

WALNUT CREEK — California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) regular-season champion Chico State and UC San Diego each placed a conference-best two players on the 2008 All-CCAA first team that was announced on Wednesday. Sophomore forward Jade Smith-Williams and senior guard Audriana Spencer were tabbed first-team selections for Chico State while head coach Molly Goodenbour was named Coach of the Year.

Cal State San Bernardino’s Vannesa Wilt, who finished second in the CCAA in scoring with 18.4 points a game and topped the conference with 13.1 rebounds and 2.4 blocked shots a contest, was voted the league’s Most Valuable Player. Cal Poly Pomona rookie guard Reyana Colson was selected Freshman of the Year and Humboldt State junior guard/forward Katie Franci was selected Newcomer of the Year.

Colson averaged 13.2 points and 4.8 rebounds a game while helping Cal Poly Pomona post an 11-15 overall record, including an 8-12 conference mark, and the No. 7 seed in the CCAA Tournament. Franci contributed 12.1 points and 9.1 rebounds a game for Humboldt State, which compiled a 16-11 overall record, 12-8 conference mark and earned the No. 5 seed in the CCAA Tournament.

In her second season as Chico State’s head coach, Goodenbour guided the Wildcats to their third CCAA title in the last four years and the No. 1 seed in this year’s conference tournament. In two years at Chico State, Goodenbour has compiled an overall record of 49-10 (.830).
