CSUMB Student-Athletes Pitch In To Make A Difference In Community

SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay student-athletes joined forces with the Bureau of Land Management on “Make A Difference Day”, the national day to help other, by cleaning up Fort Ord Public Lands on Saturday morning.

Members of the baseball, men’s basketball, women’s soccer and women’s water polo teams pitched in by picking up trash that included old mattresses, washers and dryers, cigarette buds and wrappers that were dumped on the land near the Cal State Monterey Bay campus.

“It is so rewarding to be able to help clean up the environment that is around us,” Said junior women’s soccer player Carrie LaPonza. “We had a great time working alongside other CSUMB Athletic teams.”

“Today was another victory for our student-athletes and coaches as they gave back and engaged with our community,” said Associate Athletic Director Stephanie Duke. “We demonstrated exactly what our University and our athletic department is about.”
