Cal State Monterey Bay Women's Basketball Gives Back To Community

SEASIDE, Calif. – Members of the Cal State Monterey Bay women’s basketball team volunteered with the Monterey County Food Bank in Salinas on Friday, Sept. 25 as part of a series of service projects the team is doing in the Monterey County.

In the three hours, the women’s squad served approximately 635 families.

"We have a wonderful Service learning Institute here at CSUMB,” said head coach Renee Jimenez. Not only do our student-athletes spend time within their own major course work giving back to Monterey County, we try to follow in those footsteps within our own women's basketball program.

“Our new partnership with the Monterey County Food Bank is a great way for our players to connect with the community and lend a helping hand at the same time."

"When I first heard that our team would be participating in giving back to the community at the Salinas Food Bank, I was excited,” said senior Denelle Baker. “Being in a situation where I had received from our community Food Bank, I wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to give back.

“People never forget a helping hand, especially when times are tough!"

Jimenez went on to state that the goals for their student-athletes are not just limited to winning basketball games, but  help the student-athletes strive to become future leaders in communities all over the state of California.

“Most importantly,a it's our responsibility to give back to a community who has welcomed us in our time here at CSUMB.”
