CSUMB Stockton Wins Amateur NorCal Open

DAVIS , Calif. – Ricky Stockton, a former member of the Cal State Monterey Bay men’s golf team, earned the title of amateur champion at the Northern California Open Championship Wednesday at El Macereo Country Club in Davis.

Stockton's score of 208, 8-under par, in the three-round event earned him a fifth-place finish. He closed the tournament with a 5-under-par 67 in Wednesday's final round.

Stockton won the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) medalist title last spring at Hunter Ranch Golf Club in Paso Robles. He led the men’s golf team to a tie for second place, their highest finish in school history.

“I was very happy with my game and how everything came together,” Stockton said. “It’s funny because I actually shot the exact same scores I did at Hunter Ranch when I won the CCAA Tournament.

“Coach Owen and I have put a lot of effort into getting my game to where it is today.”

PGA Tour member Todd Fischer of Livermore won the tournament with a 16-under-par 200. Salinas' Rick Leibovich, the head professional at Tehama Golf Club, finished tied for eighth with a 211.
