CSUDH Former MBB Coach to be Honored

CARSON -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills Athletic Department's "Dave Yanai Dinner Gala," a fundraising campaign to honor the former Toros men's basketball head coach, is just four days away, taking place on Sunday, October 4, at the Los Angeles Athletic Club.

As the first Japanese-American men's basketball head coach at any college level in the country, Yanai coached 19 years at CSUDH, teaching and mentoring countless student-athletes on the Carson campus.

The goal of this campaign is to honor and recognize his legacy, which will culminate with the naming of the basketball court at Cal State Dominguez Hills as the “Dave Yanai Court” in early 2010, as well as the creation of an endowed scholarship that will help future students in perpetuity.

KABC-TV's Rob Fukuzaki will act as the dinner emcee, with former CSUDH Director of Athletics and current UCLA AD Dan Guerrero serving as the keynote speaker.

A silent auction, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres precede the dinner, scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm, followed by the evening's program at 7:00 pm.

A limited amount of tickets remain.
