Kentucky Wesleyan edges Metro State, 63-60

 

ANAHEIM Ñ In a very closely contested game, Kentucky Wesleyan narrowly  defeated Metro State, 63-60, in game four of the menÕs division of the Disney's Division II West Coast Tip-Off Classic.  

 

The eight-team tournament is presented by DisneyÕs Wide World of Sports and the Disneyland Resort. The three-day menÕs and womenÕs basketball tournament is being held at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena.

 

Melvin Beasley hit two free throws with 1:14 left to play to give Kentucky Wesleyan a 61-60 lead. His teammate Yannick Murry then gave the Panthers a three-point final cushion with a layup with 15.4 ticks to play for the win.

 

KWU was led by Jeff Fahnbulleh with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Beasley finished with 15 points and T.J. Smith chipped in 11 for the Panthers (1-1).

 

Jesse Wagstaff and Marquise Carrington each had 17 points for Metro State as the Roadrunners dropped to 1-1 on the weekend. Terrell Burgess added 10 points.

 

Metro State was hot in the first half, hitting nearly 80 percent of its shots for most of the half before cooling off to a 72.2 percentage at intermission. MCSD, however, shot just 28.6 percent (6 of 21) in the second half.

 

Metro State led by as many as 10 points with six minutes left to play in the first half before KWC pulled within three at the break.
